November 23, 2014

So this week has been great except one thing, Camilo decided that he isn't ready to be baptized.  So, I know it's frustrating because he's going to Brazil for a month. We just keep going! I seriously love being a missionary. I want to share some super cool things with you guys that I've recently found in the Book of Mormon y tambien en la Santa Biblia. It's so awesome. Okay first, you know how during Christ's earthly ministry he talks about his "other sheep?" So it's in John 10:15-16 and says, "16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold and one Shepherd." So now flip to your awesome Book of Mormon and go to 3Ne 15:21. This is when after the resurrection of Jesus Christ he came and visited the Americas and in verse he says, "21 And verily I say unto you, that ye are they of whom I said other sheep I have which are not of this fold, them also I must bring and they shall hear my voice and there shall be one fold and one shepherd."  Seriously so cool.

Okay, so there is one other super cool thing I want to share with you. During the construction of the Salt Lake Temple the "Mormons" were petitioning for statehood. They wanted the name Deseret but the Governor who wasn't particularly fond of LDS people decided to call the state Utah, after the Ute Indians.  What he didn't know and what we later found out was the meaning of the word "Utah".  It means "top of the mountains." What is really cool is that it's found in the Bible in the book of Isiah 2:2, and it says, "2 And it shall come to pass in the last days that the mountain of the LORD's house shall be established in the top of the mountains and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it."  I love our church!  I love you guys tons and love hearing from you!

November 17, 2014

Well, this is my first day of the second change in the field! I seriously love being a missionary. It's so fulfilling and awesome. It just makes me happy! This week was really all about Camilo since he's being baptized this Sunday! I'm so excited and happy for him.

I actually did get my first dog bite on Friday, ha-ha. We were walking past a truck and a dog grabbed my ankle from underneath.  Elder Stone kicked the dog until it let go, ha-ha. It was scary but I'm fine. I have to deal with this ridiculous bandage now and had to get a shot. Ugh, I hate shots!

We are teaching English to a bunch of people every Thursday in Altas Cumbres, so that's always fun. I sent you some letters last week so hopefully they get there in the next couple semanas. Oh, and if you want to see Camilo's sweet dance moves, look up on YouTube, Raquel Call.

Love you Bunches! Elder Pile

November 3, 2014

I swear these weeks are going by faster and faster. My Spanish is coming to me at a very slow gallop. I can say however that I've learned more Spanish than I did in 2 years of school. Probably, because I never paid attention, ha-ha.

Nothing much happened out of the ordinary this week. We gave service to a stray dog  that was being consumed by ticks. Seriously, I knew that ticks existed but I've never seen them in action. When I say "in action" I mean fifty ticks crawling all over this poor dog. I almost puked it was so "skin crawling." ;) ha-ha. We took this dog to the local vet with our investigator, hopefully he gets better.
I've had more encounters with drunks this week than I've had in my entire life. I guess we as missionaries just attract them. My biggest question is why they kiss your hand?
I found out a little while ago that Elder Nelson from the Quorum of the 12 is coming down to speak to us on the 10th so that will be awesome.
Aver... Well, Friday was Halloween! Honestly, that was a pretty trunky day for both Elder Stone and me. We went to the church for the Halloween party. Chileans really know how to throw a party. They had a professional DJ and lights, the whole setup. It was weird though because it was in the chapel, ha-ha. They took out all the chairs and the pulpit and everything. The songs were all American Pop songs, there were like 10 F-words!  Apparently those words don't mean anything down here. Every time one was said everyone would look at us because they knew it was an American garabato. And of course we had our fair share of completos.
Camilo Espinozas fetcha bautizmal is this month and Elder Stone and I are working our butts off to get him ready. I really hope he comes through. He is so receptive and has such a good heart. Every time we teach him I can just feel the love that his Heavenly Father has for him.

So to explain the pictures:
1. I've gained 12 lbs. and it's really starting to show...
2. My comp and me at the Halloween party. He dressed up as Batman and I dressed up as Ron from Harry Potter.
Love you guys!
